Final report

Today it’s the end of this adventure. When we look back we can see how many things we have done together.
To sum up in our initiative we can distinguish four different points:
-          Meet us!
-          Solidarity
-          Dissemination
-          European dimension

We have made a Popplet so that you can have all the information visually accessible. All our activities are reflected there.

Welcome to our blog!

Hi!! We're a group of students of 1st year bachillerato in the IES Pare Vitòria, a high school placed in Alcoi, in the province of Alicante.
We're taking part in the Euroscola contest and we have done projects with students from other European countries. We've learnt a lot about them and we hope you like our blog!!
Welcome and feel free to browse as much as you want!!

What is solidarity for me.

The topic for this year’s contest is SOLIDARITY, but What is solidarity?

We have worked as a group to brainstorm our ideas and this is what we think.

University Visit

One of the main activities within our initiative was the visit to the Polytechnic University of Valencia. There Professor Boronat had the great kindness to host us and accompany us during our visit.
Before going to the University we prepared some brochures where we explained some of the actions the European Union carries out in terms of solidarity and we also described our initiative for the Euroscola contest. They were ready just in time to be shared with college students.
Dr. Boronat was extremely thoughtful and for this special day he booked the Assembly hall of the University for us. There we gathered an intimidating number of college students and we read our speeches in front of this crowd.
To open the conference Lucia read a short introduction in the Assembly Hall.

Then Mar prepared a speech where she explained some details about the actions of the European Union in terms of solidarity. You can have a peek at her speech under these lines.

Then we handed our host one of our brochures as you can see in the photo. And we left some of them in Campus to disseminate our initiative.

Speaking in public in such a big hall in front of an audience using microphones  was a bit scary and we were very nervous about that, but it turned out to be a success and a wonderful experience.
Here you can see some photos of that day.

Volunteering at the hospital

We are Neus and Clara and we are going to explain our experience working at the hospital like volunteers:
At first we went  to the assembly hall to know  how this was going to work, some nurses explained this to us.  Then they showed us the hospital, ergo all the departments and rooms. When we at met the hospital they assigned to us some patients. Our work was based  on entertaining the patient we  have been  assigned. We spend our evening talking and playing with them, like if we were their family. And sometimes we read some funny books to make them laugh. They were very grateful and affectionate and it was rewarding for us. It has been one of the best experience ever, and we are so glad because the next months we are going to repeat this amazing experience.

Solidary notebooks

Our high school, IES Pare Vitòria, is part of the network of the UNESCO associate schools. One of the activities we make every year to promote solidarity is the making and selling of Solidary Notebooks.

We make them with recycled photocopies which are not going to be used anymore, but still can be useful because they have a clean backside. Then, we sell them in the high school hall and we donate the benefits to a NGO.
