An example of solidarity: Jomy’s story

The topic of this year’s contest is Solidarity. While working on our initiative we came across the Dutch students that visited our school for an Erasmus+ project. We met them because meeting people from other places in Europe is a good way to make new friends and find out that they are not different from us, they have similar tastes and interests.
But what really caught our attention was the story Jomy shared with us. We have been several weeks reading and learning about the solidary actions of the European Union, we have learned to see with different eyes the situations where people need help, or where people show a noble behaviour, that’s why when we asked Jomy why she had such long hair, we got goose bumps in our skin and we thought we had to share this with everybody.
When Jomy was a little girl her best friend suffered cancer and started balding, so she decided to give her hair to her friend so she could have a wig. Unfortunately her friend died long time ago, but she still wants to make a wig out of her hair for a sick child. According to Jomy, hair has to be healthy, with no highlights or broken ends and it has to be over 1 metre long, so she still has to grow it 12 centimetres more.
We are sure Jomy is going to make somebody very happy.
