Marie Curie

When preparing for the written test we have read about gender inequalities, and the problems women are still facing today, we have become aware of the need to provide equal opportunities to education and also to work for women, that’s why when we learnt the about Marie Curie we thought she was an example to follow as she opened the path for many women that came after her.
This year we had the opportunity to learn about Mme. Curie in an exhibition about her life and deeds and we enjoyed it a lot. Marie Curie has done a lot for the humanity, so we visited her exposition in order to know her great feats.

When natural radioactivity and the X-rays were discovered, Marie Curie made her doctoral thesis about radioactivity in general and got the doctorate and the cum laude mention. Her husband died in 1906 and left a vacant place in the university of Paris. After this, she took up that vacancy place and started to teach in November of 1906. She became a women icon in science and society: she was the first woman in teaching and the second one in getting the doctorate in physics. 5 years later, she received the Nobel Chemistry Prize because she discovered two new chemical elements. She was the first person in getting two Nobel Prizes in two different fields.
Finally, highlight that both Pierre and Marie Curie never patented anything that they discovered, they left it for the scientific community.
